The title can be deceiving as the role encompasses much more than receiving, stocking, and shipping. In addition to feeding and shipping for the calibration lab, Transcat has a significant distribution business. In addition to the pick and pack for that I manage an extensive kitting process, customer credits and returns, defective or non-conforming material, and resolution of problematic orders. I manage a second, smaller distribution and support warehouse in the Boston area and have taken ownership with non-IT system issues with our WMS. I remain diligent on continuous improvement and employee development.

I believe that my broad skill set spanning multiple roles in operations, site management, procurement, and customer service, combined with two degrees and the ability to quickly adapt to rapidly evolving situations is the reason why I was frequently tapped to travel across the country and/or remotely drive improvements for this privately-held technology-based integrated supply chain management services corporation. Highlights include the successful launch of the JLL/Xerox Webster site ahead of the Go-Live date in which orders were fulfilled with the incumbent still on site; eliminating virtually all vendor performance issues during the transition to JLL due to proactive problem-solving skills; setting up and expanding three Distribution Centers serving over 150 client sites; establishing the process of how to pick, pack, and ship orders with 98% same day delivery with the remaining 2% by next day; and achieving a 25% inventory reduction by monitoring and adjusting actual material usage; and achieving high safety marks with no lost time accidents or recordable/reportable incidents.

This was a rewarding experience with my focus being on the reduction of inventory exposure for this manufacturer of barcode printers and POS printers. Highlights included creating a new in-house Spares & Repairs program that saved the company $250K annually and led to the promotion to Upstate New York; reducing inventory exposure by $80K monthly; improving repair turnaround time from three months to three weeks; and reducing the repair backlog from 850 units to 100 units.

In this role, I profitably oversaw inventory management and warehousing. Solectron provides post-manufacturing services (cell phone repairs) to such technology leaders as Verizon and Sprint. My primary accomplishments involved the successful control of COGS by utilizing reclamation with painting of cases vs. new parts on refurbished units, the management of a swap and repair program, and the consigning of inventory for a high-profile client.
