Upstream GMP activities involving mammalian cell cultures. Duties related to cell expansion, and monitoring activities comprising shake flasks, spinner vessels, both automated and manual reactors at both the 750 L and 3000 L scale, and harvest activities. Additionally I am experienced in the assembly, cleaning, and steaming of bioreactors and associated equipment. I was also involved in the compounding of media and solutions associated with upstream and downstream activities, and the revising of controlled documents.

A summer position working for Prof. David Kramer. My focus of study was the characterization of Complex III using yeast as a model organism. This position involved a large amount of liquid media prep and subsequent culturing of wild type yeast and mutants. I also performed a great deal of protein purification by centrifugation. The purified lysate was then used to characterize various aspects of the kinetics of Complex III. Additionally these assays involved the preparation of large amounts of buffer for the assays. For this work I also characterized the production of radical oxygen species by the Complex III using Amplex Red, a fluorescence spectroscopy system.

A summer position working for Prof. Myriam Cotten. The lab's focus of study was to elucidate the structure of antimicrobial peptide piscidin in the presence of lipid bilayers using solid state NMR. My project within the group was to compare the structure of piscidin in E. coli lipid extracts with the synthetic lipid bilayers that were more commonly used. My duties involved a great deal of peptide purification by HPLC, the creation of solid state NMR samples, and the operation of NMR spectrometers with supervision at the National High Field Magnetic Laboratory in Tallahassee, Florida.

Operated pea harvester for summer harvest season. Worked both low and high set.
