Within Dover I was responsible for the type of road barriers which had to be placed and the communication of it. The Dutch government uses some specific guidelines which your roadblock had to meet. Sometimes you have to deviate from these as the road network is quite complex and therefore the guidelines are not always applicable. This information had to be communicated with all involved parties like the government, public transport and emergency units.

Within this period I’ve followed diverse courses within the scope of Geo-IT. Followed up by that I’ve been giving basic courses in Sketchup, QGIS and ArcGIS. From August 2018 I’ve been detached to Dover Verkeersmaatregelen (Traffic Operations) as a planner / traffic coordinator.

Wairoa, New Zealand

In New-Zealand they asked me to map all the addresses of rural buildings within the Wairoa District. The problem of this task was the size of the area 4119km² and within New-Zealand they use a different system from addressing rural buildings. They measure the distance from the start of the road towards the entry of the property. Often there were clusters of building which needed some more detail compared to the overview map. Otherwise it wouldn’t be clear which building had which number. The data was acquired using the data from the measuring institute of New-Zealand and self-acquired information. Specially using the game Minecraft as it was quite popular among young people during this period. Minecraft is a sandbox game which basically means that players can modify it to their own preferences. Eindhoven

During this internship I’ve been working on a website for the project Creation2Creation. The project had a goal to work as marketplace where residual materials could be traded. This was resolved by using a map where the customer could see where the materials were located. The website and map were made using the content management system Drupal which had an integrated version op Openlayers to display the map.
