I have been a student of Buddhism for over twenty-five years, and have earned a PhD in Religious Studies as well as an advanced teaching qualification in Tibetan Buddhist studies. I have designed, taught, and TAed multiple courses on religious studies, Tibetan Buddhism, and South Asian religions, combining traditional and modern perspectives with proficiency in classical Tibetan language. I have taught and conducted research in settings from traditional Buddhist communities to university classrooms, working with some of the most respected western and Tibetan scholars. For nearly twenty years, I have taught courses on Buddhism in Europe, the US, and India, combining traditional methods with contemporary approaches from psychology and neuroscience. In 2019-20, I was the recipient of a Fulbright-Nehru fellowship to conduct research and translation work at the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, India. This work culminated in my obtaining a PhD from UC Santa Barbara in 2024.My areas of expertise include Buddhist Middle Way (Madhyamaka) philosophy, the history and theory of Tantric Buddhism, the Gelug and Kadam schools, Buddhist contemplative practices, and Tibetan history. My doctoral dissertation focused on the transmission of Tantric Buddhism from India to Tibet in the tenth to twelfth centuries, especially in the works of Atisha Dipamkara. It also examined questions of orthodoxy and transgression, both in relation to esoteric Buddhism and religion more broadly.As a translator, I have worked on Mahāyāna sutras, tantric and philosophical commentaries, ritual texts, and texts of Buddhist "spells." I have also worked extensively as an editor of books and articles, on topics ranging from Buddhist history and philosophy to art, science, technology, and religion.
