About Patrick Leitzel
As an employee in the mechanical/ manufacturing sector for over 10 years I constantly strive to outperform myself. I am driven by the desire to solve problems, when faced with the unknown I look at it as an opportunity to learn something new as well as use the skills I have already developed in order to be successful. One thing that keeps me constantly engaged in what I do is that there is a creative aspect to design. I can take various things that have influenced my life and apply them to whatever it is that I'm working on. At the end of the day two people can produce two totally different designs that accomplish the same goal but each design is unique to the individual responsible for it and to me that is what makes the field of design so rewarding.

What I thought would be my forever company quickly turned into sitting at home on unemployment due to the worldwide pandemic. I never once thought for a second I would be applying for unemployment. After about two weeks I quickly realized I could not just sit at home doing nothing. I found myself at Pequea Machine, a totally new sector of work that I never thought I would be entering into. Not only was it a production environment, but it was also in the agricultural industry. Over the year I spent at Pequea I learned so much about a craft that I had zero knowledge on. I am forever grateful for the opportunity that this presented. It changed my perspective on how I view simple things like going to the store and buying produce, the amount of work it takes for the simple things like food to get from a field to your dinner plate was a huge eye opener. While I enjoyed my time at Pequea I realized over the year that I was there, this wasn’t something I was passionate about. The team at Pequea is awesome, some of the projects I had a part in were fun but ultimately I knew my heart wasn’t in the right place. My main take away from working at Pequea was that your opportunity cost of happiness is far greater than any dollar amount could ever be. I’m happy to have had the opportunity, and look forward to keeping the connections that I built while at Pequea for years to come. Show less

As I grew into a prominent member of the design team I started to take on a larger work load, which included helping various designers complete their designs, participate in design meets that would help drive the final product, as well as be given concepts from clients that I would then go on to design from start to finish. Recently my most notable project was working on the design team that designed the scoreboard for the Wells Fargo Center. In this role I took a portion of the project and developed certain elements from concept to reality to installation. Most notably in truss design, facility connections, bearing/sheave stack ups, pyrotechnic/lighting layout, winch development, facility loading, as well as the development of part and blueprint details, and finally worked with onsite TAIT labor, union labor, project managers, other outsourced contractors during the onsite installation. Overall I have continued to grow not only my career, but also as a person while in this role. Show less

In addition to those responsibilities due to working while going to school I worked on second shift which allowed me to work through all aspects of the company including making parts in the machine shop, painting various assemblies in our paint booths, making different assemblies in our carpentry shop, some electrical fabrication, as well as working to integrate assemblies and elements together after they were produced. As I grew in my role it helped me develop critical problem solving skills, knowledge of how mechanical assemblies are made, as well as set me up for my future role after graduating from school. Project Management Intern
During my time as a project management intern I wanted to learn a part of business that I was not familiar with, this time was very insightful and helped me to better understand the decision making process before, during and after a contract was secured. I help out with various projects that included pre contract customer face to face meetings, ongoing projects, bidding, estimating, as well as onsite testing management. Overall I enjoyed my time in this internship and I learned a lot.
