Volunteer Museum Guide
CurrentAs a volunteer docent, I guide visitors through the Museum exhibits, which cover topics such as the history of mining in Maine, local geology, exceptional finds, the State's mineral wealth, gem cutting and the lapidary arts, and especially meteorites, as the Museum has an exceptional meteorite exhibit that rivals any other in the country. I answer both general and specific questions, point out information on display and provide extra information I have learned and memorized about most of the topics covered, and remain available for other kinds of assistance. I also occasionally help develop activities for visitors and provide suggestions or corrections to improve the exhibits on display.
