BACK LANE WEST is an artist run project space which flexibly incorporates a working studio, exhibition/workshop area . BLW provides space to test ideas, for active, critical cultural production and debate rather than for the routine display and consumption of art. The project supports investigation, exploration and enquiry and the opportunity to test ideas, and is concerned with enabling and sustaining developments in practice. BLW also provides venue for meetings discussion and the exchange of ideas. The project space uses are not limited and a variety of outcomes and events are planned for the foreseeable future that include residencies, talks and artist exchanges.www.backlanewest.org

Patrick Lowry’s installations examine our relationship with objects and places. Through them, he explores various forms of economic, political and cultural hierarchies. Using processes of replication and displacement, Lowry interrogates the aspects of our made environment that help construct or maintain these hierarchies and our submissive or controlled positions of user or consumer. His work stimulates the viewer to consider the subject that is being represented, and how this subject and/or its relationship to both its physical and wider social environment might be interpreted, and what it might imply.
