I began working for Alstom Grid after they brought the project I completed for Areva T&D. After the sale I remained with the company to introduce the project into their business stream and portfolio of projects. I was responsible for ensuring the control software was delivered on time and the interfaces between departments were managed so all parts worked together. I reported to the senior management team overseeing risks, costs, project plans as well as presenting directly to the customer.

Areva T&D

Areva is one of the global players in the transmission and distribution of energy. During my time with Areva I worked on a project to move high and medium voltage substations across countries and regions to locate the power where it was needed. This project had involved 70 people and £28 million budget.I was responsible for the design, build, commissioning and testing of 12kv and 13MW demonstrator. I worked on the full life cycle of the project.When I joined, the project was in crisis and failing behind schedule. There had been two previous project managers each of whom had left within 6 month. I was able to get the project back on track and complete within two years. It went on to generate $1.2 billion in revenue.It was at this time I identified a critical differentiator in successful project management. Not all project managers are suited to the development environment where outcomes are uncertain and you have to live with the unknown. Creating a project from scratch is very different from developing an existing project and releasing incremental developments. It is therefore important to make sure the right project manager is recruited.After the successful completion of this project, it was sold to Alstrom Grid, where I continued as the project manager.

Oxley is a global company specialising in the design and manufacture of advanced electronic and electro-optic components and systems for air, land and sea applications within the military sector and aerospace.At this time Oxley had a major contact to refitted and modernise the lighting in aircraft fleets. The project was falling behind and I was brought in to get things back on track. The coordination of this project involved installing new lights in minimum time to reduce ground time and keep costs low.Once the project was completed, Oxley invited me to write robust process documents to ensure future projects were managed correctly.

The main role was to a manage team of sixteen developers at the final delivery stages of a video security system project. The main role was to ensure that the promised delivery milestones were met. Project management responsibility for design, manufacturing and testing of a three axis robot to position a surgical robot. The team for this project involved up to six people. This involved coming up with a conceptual design, taking through detailed design and manufacture and assembly.
