With a decade of experience in education, I currently serve as the Assistant Headteacher of Primary at BISR. In this role, I lead the transition towards an engaging and contemporary conceptual curriculum while maintaining the rigour and knowledge of the English national curriculum. In my current role as Phase Leader for Lower Key Stage 2, I spearhead curriculum development for Years 3 and 4, ensuring an innovative and integrated learning experience. In my role as Head of Year 4, I had pastoral and academic oversight of over 100 students and led a team of 10 class teachers, teaching assistants and learning support assistants. I was responsible for the development of the curriculum and worked closely with the team to ensure that all lessons were rigorous and engaging for the students. Under my leadership, the year group moved towards using evidence-informed practices based on the latest cognitive research to ensure that the learning potential of each student was maximised. My vision was that when children leave Year 4, they will had developed an understanding of the wider world and current affairs, with a focus on how they can use the skills that they have learned in school to act and effect real change in the world. Using the PERMA model, I monitored the wellbeing of all students and placed emphasis on self-regulation and mindfulness activities to ensure that students can identify their emotion and learned the tools to regulate them. With the support of the Year 4 team, I overseen the development of high standards in all aspects of student behaviour, attitude and learning. I analysed data to inform and implement interventions, mentoring or counselling, ensuring that all students connect their actions and outcomes with the learning ethos of the school.

In my role as English Coordinator, I led the development of English in the primary section of BISR, from Foundation Stage through to Year 6. I ensured a consistent and continuous focus on students’ achievement within English using data and benchmarks to monitor progress in every child’s learning. I challenged student underperformance and ensured effective intervention, monitoring and evaluating progress, liaising with parents, tutors and senior managers where appropriate. I was integral to implementing effective strategies and procedures for staff induction, professional development and performance review and I delivered CPD sessions which matched the needs of colleagues and the school's development plan. As well as this, I actively contributed to developing the primary school’s INSET days and induction of new staff.

As a class teacher, I oversaw the academic and pastoral progress of up to 22 pupils. I liaised with other team members to ensure that the needs of all children were being met and met regularly with parents to provide updates on each student. I collaborated with other team members to review data and develop instructional strategies to address student learning objectives and was instrumental in the development of the curriculum within my area. I regularly administered assessments to determine each student's specific educational and social needs and acted upon the results with the support of my line manager and the Students Services staff members. I enhanced student learning by optimising a wide range of instructional approaches and innovative classroom activities to meet the needs of all students.

During my NQT year, I taught as a Year 3 teacher where I prepared daily lesson plans, planned and supervised class projects, field trips and visits by guest speakers. In this initial year of teaching, I built the skills to identify signs of emotional or developmental problems which pupils may have and enabled the pupils to get the appropriate help by liaising with members of the Learning Support Team, enrolling myself on professional development courses and meeting with parents to discuss the issues. I also became adept at providing one-to-one attention to the students that needed extra support whilst maintaining the overall focus of the entire class.
