I specialize in assisting companies bring their products to market. In particular, I work with companies in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical area in assessing and obtaining freedom-to-operate globally. With a team of attorneys and searchers, I regularly assess global patent portfolios in relation to (bio)pharmaceuticals, their use and methods for their manufacture and work with counsel throughout the world to obtain freedom-to-operate for our clients. As part of this process I regularly integrate with in-house counsel as part of their team and work with our clients scientists to develop design-around strategies or invalidity positions. I have experience with both brand companies and generics and biosimilars, including under the BPCIA patent dance. It is a fantastic experience when we work with one of our clients to successfully bring their product to market.Given my experience with generics/biosimilars, I also work with brand companies developing strategies to protect their assets from generics/biosimilars using patents as well as regulatory exclusivities. The clients I work with are primarily large multi-national companies, however I also work with start-up companies and research institutes. I have also served a brief period as in-house counsel, which provided valuable insight into the responsibilities of this role.
