Advise on environmental and energy law, regulation, and policy with a focus on renewal energy projects and environmental regulatory and transactional matters.

I worked as General Counsel for regional litigation firm with 11 offices across three states where I was responsible for handling the internal legal affairs of the firm. This included reviewing and negotiating for firm insurance coverages, technology needs, and other services, and managing outside counsel retained to assist in firm litigation. Additional responsibilities include overseeing firm operations from a legal perspective as part of the Executive Management team, assisting and training younger attorneys, and conducting legal research on unique and complex legal issues.

Worked for a national construction consulting firm retained by the Georgia Department of Transportation to implement their multi-billion dollar construction Major Mobility Investment Program. My primary role was to review and interpret the project contracts and advise the Program Manager on project requirements to ensure the contract was complied with and administered appropriately. I also led contract disputes, drafted project correspondence, executed contract change documents and led efforts in regard to risk management.

Led the Office of Policy and Intergovernmental Affairs within the Department of Watershed Management where I collaborated with Department Executive Staff to plan, draft, review, and manage the Department’s legislation submitted to the Atlanta City Council. I also managed relationships with other City departments, the Mayor’s Office, Atlanta City Council, and high-level water industry partners, agencies and regulatory bodies.

Served as in-house legal counsel for the City and advised on environmental regulatory issues, including compliance with the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and related state laws and regulations; negotiated with state and federal environmental agencies for environmental permits and compliance with consent orders; and counseled on transactional matters related to land use and development, sustainability and clean energy, and hazardous and solid wastes.I negotiated new permits for the City’s combined sewer system, water reclamation centers, and municipal separate storm sewer system with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, and advised on compliance with consent decrees with the Environmental Protection Agency for the City’s combined sewer system and separate sewer system. I also provided legal support and guidance for the redevelopment of Brownfield sites. My practice also involved general transactional, contracting and procurement, and real estate matters, and I was the lead attorney on transactions with a total value of approximately $1,180,000,000.00. These matters included Property Assessed Clean Energy program for commercial buildings, audit agreements and performance contracts for the City’s Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Program, and financing the installation of solar panels pursuant to a solar energy procurement agreement.I also drafted, negotiated, and reviewed construction, goods, services, and technology contracts for multiple departments, and drafted, reviewed and negotiated real estate documents to support the City’s water and sewer utility.

The Southern States Energy Board is an interstate compact composed of governors and state legislators from sixteen southern states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Board’s mission is to promote economic development and enhance the quality of life in the south through innovations in energy and environmental policies, programs and technologies. My role was to advise Board members on legislative and regulatory policy trends on both a regional and national level. I also published papers and gave presentations on energy and environmental matters.

I worked as a Summer Associate for a solo practitioner where I researched civil rights law issues relating to 42 U.S.C §1983, drafted complaints and prepared legal memoranda on litigation issues. I also drafted and submitted an appellate brief to Mississippi Supreme Court in an insurance law case.

I worked as a Summer Associate for a small firm where I performed extensive research and prepared legal memoranda on deprivation of a federal right, negligence, breach of fiduciary duties, and defamation. I also submitted a motion for entry of default in breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation case.
