Accounts and assurance for co-operatives, community benefit societies, charities and other social enterprises. I have three co-workers and we aim to become a co-operative ourselves in due course.

My role has been to help this exciting project go from an embryonic stage to a flourishing social enterprise. This has involved raising finance with an initial loan stock issue, conversion of the structure to a co-operative society for the benefit of the community, developing a business plan, enlisting the help and support of the Co-operative Enterprise Hub, doing a share issue, setting up systems for HR and payroll, running the finance function and book-keeping and more!

Our clients are almost exclusively charities and social enterprises, and my work consists of charity and other audits, charity independent examinations, accounts preparation, and VAT and tax advice.

Helped to set up and run a wholefood shop as a worker co-operative in Derby. The shop focuses on organic produce and wholefoods; it does not sell animal products or supplements. As well as doing shop work I was the finance worker and helped to raise the money to start the project. It is still flourishing and I still help them with their finance function!

Leading member of a group which campaigned to save a large area of green land from development. That land had been freely used by the public since time immemorial. I applied to register the land as a Green under the Commons Act 2006. This was largely suiccessful, as 2 of the 3 fields have been formally registered as Green. This means that they can never be built on.
