My name is Patrick, and I am a physicist, studying at the University of Birmingham (UOB). I am looking to become a PhD student in physics instrumentation/experimental physics. While doing my degree I work as a sailing and windsurf instructor, with five years of experience in teaching all ages to sail and get on the water.I enjoy hiking and swimming as hobbies. I also partake in musical studies, and enjoy playing the piano to unwind.I enjoy looking into all areas of physics, but my primary scientific interests are: - Engineering physics and construction of scientific instruments,- Laser and opto-mechanical systems,- Chaos and dynamical systems,- Designing and testing control systems using a variety of techniques (feedback/feedforward etc...)

As part of my project I began the development of a novel gravity gradiometer design, conducting a design and feasibility study using two existing geophones. As part of the internship I got to experience what it is like to be part of a research group at a university, and got to speak at a QI conference on my experimental results.
