Protect life and property by controlling and extinguishing fires and responding to fire alarms and other hazardous incidents. The department is a state licensed medical First Responder agency, providing basic life support service to injured and sick persons as well as those overcome by smoke and fire. They also participate in a large range of training drills, community life safety education programs, pre-fire planning, and other fire service activities.

Operate and maintain heavy construction equipment, including front-end loaders, road graders, bulldozers, dump trucks, skid steer loaders, backhoes, water trucks, forklifts, excavators, cranes and multipurpose sweepers. Operate tractor-trailer combinations, transporting construction equipment and materials.Construct, maintain and inspect concrete and asphalt runways, aircraft parking aprons and roads. Operate small powered equipment, such as pneumatic hammers, air compressors and vibrator tampers. Support contingency operations by constructing bare base facilities, such as temper tents and mobile concrete/asphalt/rock-crushing plants, at locations around the world. Install and maintain drainage structures, such as storm drains, culverts and ditches.
