About Patrick Mullins
Hi. I'm a Canberra-based writer, author, and researcher.I'm the author of three published books with more forthcoming. I write reviews, commentary, and essays for a range of periodicals and journals (academic and trade). I also write commissioned histories with several in press.My first book, 'Tiberius with a Telephone', a biography of former prime minister William McMahon (1971–72), was published by Scribe in October 2018. It won the National Biography Award in 2020, the Douglas Stewart Prize for Non-Fiction at the 2020 New South Wales Premier's Literary Awards, and it was long-listed for a Walkley Book Award in 2019.My second book, 'The Trials of Portnoy', is an account of the downfall of literary censorship in Australia as sparked by the publication of Philip Roth’s novel 'Portnoy’s Complaint' and the court trials that followed (1970–72). 'The Trials of Portnoy' was published by Scribe in June 2020 and long-listed for the Mark and Evette Moran Nib Literary Award in 2020.My third book, co-authored with Matthew Ricketson, is 'Who needs the ABC?', an account of the public broadcaster over the last twenty years and its treatment by the federal government. It was published in 2022.
