I lead NHC's policy, public affairs, communications, and membership engagement teams.

I led the policy and programme work for the Public Bodies Review of Homes England.

In this role I led a team working on adult social care market sustainability, strategy and reform. This included leading the design and launch of both the Fair Cost of Care and Market Sustainability and Improvement Funds, totalling over £1.4bn investment in adult social care, and leading policy on local authority market shaping and commissioning.

I covered the Golden State Warriors for Forbes, who are one of the most innovative and successful sports franchises in the United States, publishing 267 articles over 3 1/2 years.I have interviewed dozens of leaders at the cutting edge of the sports and entertainment industries on subjects including technological innovation and the use of data, leadership, emerging investment strategies, the development of the Warriors new privately financed $1.6bn arena complex in San Francisco, and the international expansion of the National Basketball Association (NBA). I covered games in California, London, and Paris, including attending a rare public appearance from Michael Jordan.Over my time at Forbes I built a large and diverse audience, including senior NBA executives and players, with my articles receiving around 2.4 million pageviews.

In this role I led policy development on investment into the new supply of affordable housing and the Affordable Homes Programme, including securing £11.5bn of grant-funding for social and affordable housing.

I was responsible for leading NPC’s policy work. This involved developing new projects, building relationships and sharing insights with policy makers in Government and the Charity Commission, the media, senior leaders across the social sector, and external stakeholders, including in the private sector. My main achievement was the development and delivery of our flagship ‘State of the Sector’ programme of original research and leading thinking on strategic transformation and the future of the social sector. I led this programme from conception to delivery. This included building, developing, and leading a team from scratch, developing partnerships with a diverse set of private sector organisations and foundations to secure funding, overseeing the design and delivery of the research programme and essay collection, organising and leading a wide range of events to engage charity leaders across the country, and co-authoring a series of major reports.
I set up and ran NPC’s first Policy Advisory Board, bringing together high profile policy-makers from the public, private and social sectors to provide insight, guidance and credibility to our work. As a member of NPC’s SMT I represented NPC externally at a senior level including giving oral evidence to the Lords Select Committee on Civic Engagement and serving on Charity Bank's social sector advisory panel.

I served 3 years as a trustee of the Mayday Trust, a pioneering charity supporting people who experience barriers such as homelessness, or face challenging life transitions such as leaving prison or care, to reach their full potential. Mayday's innovative model of support work builds on people’s strengths, rather than the traditional deficit model.I was actively involved in our expansion into Oxfordshire, as well as with the development of the model and our progress towards the first local authority commissioned social impact bond in the field of homelessness. I was instrumental in developing Mayday's new strategic direction, shifting to influencing and systems change. I chaired our first national influencing event in April 2016, organised in partnership with Homeless Link and served as Vice Chair from November 2014.

I was responsible for policy development and analysis on localism and economic growth, and subsequently the care and support agenda. I represented the Federation externally with stakeholders and at a range of events, including working with local enterprise partnerships across the Midlands and South West to embed housing in their emerging strategies for local economic growth.I was the organisation’s lead on the Care Act. I worked with members and stakeholders, such as the Care and Support Alliance, to embed housing throughout the statutory guidance. I also worked with the Care Quality Commission to ensure regulation is appropriate for housing associations, leading our work on the market oversight regime for large providers and successfully securing changes to mitigate major development risks on supported living. I chaired the Dementia and Housing working group consisting of members and key stakeholders, including representatives from government, and led our work on housing costs in supported housing, including by representing the NHF on the DWP review steering group.

I was responsible for policy research and formulation including writing the group’s manifesto, strategic advice on messaging and campaigns, media relations and ensuring the office ran effectively. Areas of policy that I researched and advised on included health, social care, and economic regeneration. I provided a key link between the local and national politicians, including ministers, and supported the group's efforts to influence the developing localism agenda. As a result of my proactive media approach, the Group regularly appeared in the local media, with repeated coverage of our key messages.

Throughout my time as a Councillor I assisted local residents with complex problems, and formulated all key policies on housing and homelessness for our group. As Deputy Leader of the Opposition I mentored council candidates from diverse backgrounds.
I ran several successful campaigns including securing local community support for the largest development in the city for a generation, on a greenfield site in my own ward, of up to 1000 homes at Barton Park, and for a new adolescent mental health facility at the Warneford Hospital, which was secured despite strong opposition. I have spoken at local, regional and national conferences, public meetings and parliamentary groups on homelessness, housing and mental health. I also lobbied the national party on housing policy, including drafting a policy paper in 2010 that was submitted to the Deputy Prime Minister’s Policy Unit and influenced the party’s policy review on housing.I was one of the most high profile Councillors in the local media, appearing over 100 times in the press. I also provided a key link between our local government base and local party campaigning, serving as campaigns and media officer in 2 general elections (2005 & 2010) in the target seat of Oxford East.

I was responsible for developing new policy, providing senior management with strategic political leadership and the efficient management and delivery of services and budgets covering three departments. I worked very effectively across party lines with colleagues to deliver our policy agenda despite the council having no overall majority group. My strategy focused on three pillars – increasing supply, tackling poor conditions in the private rented sector, and creating more opportunities for people experiencing homelessness. To increase supply I initiated long term plans to build new affordable housing, including the first council housing for 20 years, and brought forwards the largest site for development for a generation. I also ensured we delivered a major estate regeneration scheme which had been stalled. To improve the private rented sector I spearheaded the council’s successful bid to Government for additional licensing for houses of multiple occupation. We were the first council in the country to bid for these new powers.To tackle homelessness, I redrafted our strategy to focus on improving opportunities and skills. As a result of this new focus our bid for a new centre for people experiencing homelessness was judged to be the top bid in the ‘Places of Change’ programme. The Council was also named 'Regional Champions for Preventing Homelessness' in 2006/7 and 'Regional Champions for Preventing Youth Homelessness' in 2007/8.I also initiated and oversaw the implementation of a strategic assets disposal programme to ensure the Council could meet the Decent Homes Standard while retaining council ownership of their housing stock.

I was heavily involved in several election campaigns, as well as performing various clerical duties in the constituency office.
