Duties included strategy planning, bid writing, consultancy, project planning, recruiting, supervising and mentoring junior members, laboratory work, dissemination and raising profile of work. Acted as a consultant for local electrochemistry activities.One of only two scientists chosen to speak to the UK Science Minister during an NPL visitSuccessfully completed, on budget and on time, 2 projects (ca. £600k) on excitonic PV performance. Work, including developing a world unique pc-AFM, took NPL to the cutting edge of organic PV nm characterisation. Established a network of links with the organic PV industrial base in the UK and forged strategic links with the leading academic groups in the country: with Bath University in dye sensitised solar cells and with Imperial College and Edinburgh University on organic solar cells via shared Post-Doctoral and PhD students.Youngest Senior Research Scientist at the time of promotion.

Introduced SECM, a new measurement capability into NPL, work which has since spawned SECM-SICM and SECM-AFM activities. Delivered two projects (ca. £450k total) that were successfully completed on budget and on time. Worked on corrosion and spatially localised electrochemistryDemonstrated the potential of SECM as a unique tool for the activity mapping of catalyst films for PEM fuel cells, a finding of particular interest to the fuel cell community.
