I am a trial lawyer who advocates for people who have been harmed by powerful corporations or the government. I served as trial counsel in a landmark, seven-week class action trial against PacifiCorp that resulted in a nearly $90 million verdict for fire victims—ultimately the largest civil jury verdict in Oregon's history. I’ve also achieved acquittals and favorable outcomes as lead trial counsel in criminal jury trials. I began my career in Texas state politics, where I served as a legislative director and communications aide.My representative cases include:James et al. v. PacifiCorp et al., 20CV33885 (Alexander, J.): Represented thousands of victims of the Labor Day 2020 fires in a landmark class action lawsuit against PacifiCorp. Examined numerous witnesses at trial including four experts and several fact witnesses, argued fourteen motions in limine on behalf of the class at the pretrial conference, and managed the discovery process. Helped secure a landmark $90 million verdict for the class representatives—the largest civil jury verdict in Oregon’s history.District of Columbia v. Juul Labs, Inc., 19CA7795 (Edelman, J.): Represented the District of Columbia in a lawsuit against JUUL Labs, Inc. for marketing and selling addictive nicotine-based products to kids and teenagers. First-chaired the deposition of JUUL’s expert on the addictiveness of its product. JUUL ultimately settled for $15.2 million—the largest litigated settlement DC has ever secured under the Consumer Protection Procedures Act. State of Oregon v. Roses, 17CR78143: Represented Mr. Roses in criminal prosecution in Multnomah County Circuit Court. Served as lead counsel in a multiple-day jury trial and successfully secured an acquittal from assault and harassment charges on self-defense grounds.
