I was a Firefighter/EMT for five years for the Sauk Village Fire Department, then hired onto Sauk Village Police Department. I spent nearly five years in patrol and cross trained as a Crime Scene Technician. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice with a Psychology minor for Governor's State University in 1998.I then hired onto Lansing Police Department where I spent nearly 15 years. I was assigned to various units within the department to include Crime Scene/Evidence Technician, Traffic Unit and the Investigations Units. I received specialized training in investigations as well as in crime scene processing and aspects of accident reconstruction. I was also an EMT-Paramedic and was the department's EMS coordinator for approximately five years.I earned my Associates Degree in Nursing from South Suburban College in 2005 and my Masters Degree in Nursing from St Xavier University in 2008. I have worked on Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Units. I worked for University of Saint Francis from August 2014 to December 2021 as a nurse educator. I taught Mental Health Nursing for 7 1/2 years, a semester of Pediatric Nursing and a semester as a Medical/Surgical 2 clinical instructor. I served on several faculty committees as well as the advisor for the Student Nurse's Association for two years.I November 2021, I started working for The Methodist Hospitals, Gary/Merrillville, Indiana as the Stroke Coordinator. My responsibilities include: data tracking, patient and family education and working with doctors, nurses and other medical staff to improve stroke care and realize better patient outcomes.In February 2023, I earned my Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN) designation through AANN. In May 2023, I facilitated the stroke reaccreditation for Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus as a Primary Stroke Center and the South Lake campus as a Thrombectomy Ready Center through ACHC.In March 2024, I earned my certification as an Advanced Stroke Coordinator- Board Certified through the ANVC.
