The mine fully owned and operated by BHP Billiton and is one of seven iron ore mines the company operates in the Pilbara. The company also operates two port facilities at Port Hedland, Nelson Point and Finucane Island, and over 1,000 kilometres of rail in the Pilbara.♦KEY RESPONSIBILITIES♦✓Setting up pylon towers for the pulling of conductor wire, using either square rigging with winches and helicopters.✓Erection of steel towers using cranes, dual lifts or single use of winches for square rigging.✓Also set up vehicles to transport various size loads.✓Yard duties included using a variety of rigging techniques, from dogging the Frannas for moving containers to moving heavy objects around confined spaces and workshops.✓Although most of my work was done on the steel at heights of around 80m, I was required to do a great deal of the ground set up of the EWPs and other various cranes and equipment.
