I worked as Livelihood and Food Security Technical Assistant at Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) implementing Response to Increased demand on Government Service and creation of Economic opportunities in Uganda (RISE), a multi-year program funded by European Union in Bidi Bidi refugee settlement (West Nile). As technical assistant, I provided technical assistance to facilitate market access for refugees by advising and guiding in technical decisions. I supported refugees and hosts (especially youth and women) with limited access to farm land to start, operate and grow off-the-farm Income Generating Activities (IGA) in to self-sustaining businesses for self-reliance. My role includes facilitating business development from idea generation to expansion; facilitating business plan development, business coaching and mentorship; conducting business assessment; provision of need-based technical and business management trainings; facilitating market oriented linkages to relevant market players including financial institutions. I also ensured that grants and investments from the project are disbursed in a manner that facilitate business growth.

Gulu, Uganda

Served as Operations Manager at River Poultry, a young promising agribusiness company in Gulu, Northern Uganda. The company aimed to be a reliable provider of quality and affordable chicken and products in Uganda. In this role, I was responsible for the general operation of the company from raw material sourcing, product processing, and marketing and distribution (both chicken and poultry feeds). My role included recruitment, workplace safety, and capacity building; marketing and distribution; out grower management and brand promotion. I also promoted farmers’ driven innovation and adoption of simple business practices aimed at addressing production challenges. With passion for branding, I worked with the founders to visualize and promote the company brand

Northern Uganda

Served as Agriculture Officer for AgriSkills for You and Skilling Youth for Employment in agribusiness project in Northern Uganda. In this role, I provided technical assistance to facilitate market access for smallholder farmers/farmer groups and youth by advising and guiding in technical decisions. I work with implementing partners to build capacity of smallholder farmers, farmer organizations, and relevant private sector to grow and market good quality crops and livestock through mindset change, need based technical and business skills/practices trainings. My technical role included analyzing selected private skills providers, agribusinesses, traders, buyers, etc. to identify their needs; establishing productive relationships between farmer organizations with buyers and traders, and developing profitable and sustainable markets for the selected value chains; promoting farmers’ driven innovation, technology adoption and facilitating business plan development for the project beneficiaries - youth/farmers/groups.
