I was graduated from “Paris Ouest” University School of Medicine. I completed my residency and fellowship in anesthesiology at University Denis Diderot (Paris 7, France).First, I was responsible for the ICU of cardiac surgery, and for the prehospital unit (as part of the SAMU de Paris) of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at Lariboisière University Hospital (Paris, France). It was during this period that I became interested in Research in patients with heart failure, in heart-lung interaction, in Non-Invasive Ventilation and in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Regarding cardiac arrest, I turned to cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques such as active compression-decompression, and the impedance threshold device, both complementary in improving venous return during the decompression phase. I also began working on the interest of CPAP in patients victims of acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema. Because of this experience in both intrahospital and prehospital settings, I was called by McGill University (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) to create a link between the EMS system (Urgence Santé) and the Department of Anesthesiology at the Montreal General Hospital. I worked over there as Associate Professor from 2002 to 2004. Back to France, I was assigned to become the head of the Emergency Department at Lariboisière University Hospital, one of the largest in Paris.Professor of Emergency Medicine and Anesthesiology (M.D., Ph.D.), I am member of the French Society of Emergency Medicine in which I was President of the Research Committee for 3 years. I am also Council member in the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EuSEM). I had the honor the be co-chair of the Scientific Committee in the VIIth MEMC (Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress) in 2013.
