Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Strategic Counseling, for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), a national federation of 36 independent, community-based and locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies. The Blue System is the nation’s largest health insurer, covering one-in-three of all Americans.Lead a team of attorneys, paralegals and staff who provide counsel on complex litigation, policy, operational and strategic issues impacting BCBSA and the Blue System. Manage a portfolio of litigation matters that pose significant financial, operational and reputational risk to the Blue System, including antitrust, intellectual property, information and data security, HIPAA-related issues, human resources and commercial disputes. Primary responsibility for managing the nationwide antitrust class action litigation pending against BCBSA and each BCBS Plan. Advise BCBSA business teams, senior leadership, and the Board of Directors on operational and policy matters, providing counsel on antitrust and other legal issues impacting BCBSA and BCBS Plan programs across Commercial Markets, BlueCard, Office of Clinical Affairs and Strategic Services. Lead the Business Support team, which provides counseling and contracting support for all BCBSA business teams.
