My position as contact (general) counsel for the Oregon Department of Energy is challenging and rewarding. The responsibilities include:* Providing legal advice to ODOE's Siting, Policy and Innovation and Nuclear Safety teams.* Advising the Oregon Energy Facility Siting Council (EFSC) regarding the siting of large energy facilities across the State of Oregon. This requires in-depth knowledge and analysis of a variety of state laws and regulations including those governing land use, environmental and natural resource matters, and administrative law.* Representing the Oregon Department of Energy in contested cases, including challenges to Siting Division recommendations to EFSC about energy facility site certificate applications.* Working with Department of Justice appellate attorneys to defend any appeals of EFSC Final Orders in the Oregon Supreme Court.* Serving as legal counsel for the State of Oregon regarding remediation and recovery of natural resource damages at the Hanford Nuclear Site.* Analyzing legislation related to energy matters and providing advice regarding drafting or amendment of regulations the agency has been charged with developing and implementing.* Analyzing and drafting contracts, Memoranda of Understanding, Interagency Agreements and other legal documents to which ODOE is a party. I love spending time in the refreshing, green Northwest outdoors with my wife and our two sons. I especially enjoy mountain climbing, snowboarding, backpacking, camping, cycling and an occasional Spartan obstacle course race.
