I am addicted to writing code!| | YOU NEVER KNOW... | |I never thought I would say the above statement, but halfway through tech school I found myself shamelessly inspecting nearly every website or other coded work that I visited for more than a minute! I was obsessed finding out what language the site was written in and if I could figure it out...Javascript, React, Angular, Python, Java, C# or C++...what did the CSS look like, how was it set up. I can now talk about SQL, Express, Cordova, Ionic and the Agile team method like I know what I am talking about. Now I cannot look at the tech world as a non-developer.| | THE EARLY DAYS | |My background for 25+ years was in Corporate Retail with Costco Wholesale and much of that in management. What an experience! I FOUND THAT I WAS A PEOPLE PERSON! I hired and fired, encouraged and corrected, created systems and inspired others. I was incredibly fortunate to have people around me that wanted to grow! Everywhere I went, we succeeded by beating expectations and goals! I had the opportunity to foster managers and leaders who grew up around me. The teams and processes that were formed were repeated and used as templates for success. It was an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling experience.| | THE IRRITATION OF NOT KNOWING | |I could never shake off my interest in software development. I would fill my spare time creating websites with website builders and dabbling in javascript and CSS. I found that I knew just barely enough about coding and software development to break a website but not fix it!| | WHAT DID I GET MYSELF INTO | |I embarked on a path to enrich myself. I went to an incredible technology bootcamp called Bethel School of Technology. What an incredible experience! What a challenging experience!! I learned much more about myself than I did about coding! I found that learning Javascript, React and Angular was a much more challenging task than I imagined. I thought they were speaking Greek at first but as time went on I understood enough of the basics to survive and become the equivalent of a junior developer.| | THE WHY | |Why would I jump into a coding school with a family, full-time job and side hustle? Two words...MY FAMILY. They are worth it. Always believing in me and always cheering me on. When I wanted to quit, they told me no. When I was too tired, they made me coffee! Now, it is their turn to reap the benefits. Let's see where it takes us! I am ready for the next adventure!! LET'S GO!!
