- Supervise and manage the course materials (textbook) as well as the trade book department of the Reed College Bookstore.- Oversee the day to day operations of both departments as well as implement forward and strategic planning for both departments.- Ensure that sales and margin goals are met while providing a high level of service to the academic community of Reed College.- Forecast sales and budgets for the departments- Supervise student workers- Enhance the bookstore's ability to compete in the course materials market by implementing such strategies as dynamic online sourcing of used books, market-based dynamic pricing of books on the shelves, and market-based buyback pricing. Oversee a robust and growing independent rental option for the store.- Keep and maintain a professional relationship with faculty on campus, implementing strategies to increase textbook adoption timeliness in adherence to the Higher Education Opportunity Act- Ensure that Reed College is able to maintain a robust and well-stocked trade book section in keeping with the academic mission of the college that is reflective of the standards of Reed.

• Ordering textbooks and other course materials on behalf of the bookstore, building positive relationships with publishers and other vendors, overseeing the textbook reservations system of thousands of pre-orderd textbook reservations, contacting and collecting course textbook adoptions from professors and instructors as well as course coordinators of Auburn University • Public relations and customer service, interacting on a daily basis with students, parents, and faculty over the phone, email, and in-store• Maintaining a working day-to-day knowledge of inventory and current semester course adoptions so as to quickly and accurately answer questions from instructors, students, and parents of students• Overseeing custom textbook publishing for the department• Supervising and scheduling 10+ sales floor student and temporary employees employed in the daily activities of the textbook department: notably floor inventory maintenance, customer interactions, and training current and new employees on salesmanship, customer service, and general work-related knowledge.• Designing and creating marketing and promotional materials • Running daily bookstore activities such as textbook buyback, processing rentals and rental returns through such companies as Rafter and Campus Book Rentals, cataloguing and maintaining textbook inventory
