Cliffs Natural Resources is a Fortune 500 mining company founded in 1890, specializing in extraction of iron-ore, coal, copper and chromium resources. Cliffs’ headquarters is based out of Cleveland Ohio, with many of the iron-ore mines spread out across the Minnesota Iron Range. Northshore Mining Co. is a fully owned Cliffs subsidiary taconite mine and processing plant located in Silver Bay Minnesota on the great Lake Superior. Northshore has an on-site local IT department which implements and manages IT solutions to coincide with corporate Cliffs IT department goals.I teamed up with Northshore Mining Co. IT department as a summer intern to learn their systems, practices and be trained in the taconite manufacturing processes. Soon was given multiple projects to complete over the course of the summer internship. Gained proficiency in fiber optic network design, Help Desk ticket management, IP-based security systems, voice and data cabling as well as CISCO router/switch/firewall configuration. Assisted in the installation of SMART Boards, CISCO Telepresense conferencing hardware and A/V equipment.

Headquartered in Scottsdale Arizona, the corporate office has a massive IT department linking to (and managing) all the satellite locations scattered throughout the US.Progressed from entry-level tire technician to 4S assistant manager at two main locations in Minnesota. Trained in 2008 in apprenticeship program involving computer use, inventory database management and sales and eventually passed that training down to new-hires. Persuaded management and began using my technical and educational background to implement free guest Wi-Fi network, collaborating with Discount Tire Corporate IT department.
