Sci-Lume Labs is a hard science company developing new biobased and biodegradable fibers to replace conventional materials like nylon and polyester. Bylon™—Sci-Lume Labs’ high-performance, drop-in ready fiber—addresses the environmental concerns associated with synthetic fibers, without losing the performance and versatility. In my role I help guide and implement the strategy for product and business development. We actively seek partners in apparel who struggle find a sustainable replacement for nylon, as well as small and mid-size manufactures of nylon textiles who want to break into the sustainable material arena without changing their machinery or increasing their operational costs.

Unicube is a next-gen start-up that develops proprietary technology to create eco-friendly, fully modular furniture that easily assembles without tools, making the items ideal for B2B commercial, hospitality, and event services industries. As an Advisory Boar Member I provided recommendations and advice concerning business strategy, regulatory guidance, product and business development, manufacturing and materials procurement, logistics and operations.

At Creative Co-Op I led all aspects of Product Development for eCommerce furniture. I personally designed furniture from concept, to pencil sketch, to 3D rendering, to tech pack/product brief. I led all sourcing in my category selecting and developing supplier relationships throughout Brazil, China, India, Mexico and Southeast Asia. Together with my team I sample, review, and improve prototypes to optimize for quality, price, and parcel sized ISTA6 packaging. I ensured suppliers selected were ethical and sustainable by guiding them through the SMETA and BSCI audit process. I provided the creative direction for all marketing materials and led photoshoots for new and existing products within my category. I served as the decision maker in all QC related inquiries for my category, setting quality standards and negotiating any needed chargebacks if quality ever falls below expectation. The end result of my work is the creation of hundreds of unique furniture items which sold successfully across all of the largest eComm retailers in the US.

As Director of Product Development I led the design, development, sourcing, purchasing, and manufacturing of some of the world’s most sustainable home goods.* Worked closely with CEO and senior VPs to create a Product Roadmap that will seize relevant market opportunities within Buffy’s Business Objectives.* Collaborated with UX and Marketing to produce Product Briefs that distill market trends, competitor behavior, and consumer insights into clear product attributes.* Led the Sourcing and Purchasing team to create overall sourcing strategies that will fulfill the needs of our Product Road Map and build competitive advantage.* Led Product Designers to come up with unique and ownable design concepts, guide design iterations, and approve all designs for prototyping.* Approved all factory/vendor selections to ensure the best balance of price, sustainability, quality, and supply chain reliability.* Approved all purchase prices from Sourcing and Purchasing team, ensuring best possible result is achieved through open cost breakdowns and adherence to overall sourcing strategies.

In this role I led the team that creates new IKEA products specifically designed for the North American market. I worked with retail to identify market needs, and then find sourcing options throughout North, Central, and South America. I developed new products that drive dramatic growth across all home furnishing categories including upholstery, solid wood, textiles, glass, steel, ceramic, and many others.

In this role I used my experience in launching new businesses paired with my knowledge of global markets to help open a new retail country for IKEA. I mapped and analyzed the competitive environment to develop national pricing and product strategies. I set the national retail prices, forecast volumes, and identify the ideal range of products for IKEA to offer in South Korea. I was one of three individuals tasked with hiring the management team for the first store. Additionally, I had the responsibility of National Product Requirements & Compliance Manager to ensure all IKEA products sold in Korea comply with all local regulations and standards.

Traveled to the retail markets to gain consumer insights from the 40 countries IKEA operates. I then analysed these insights to find global commonalities and develop new products that maximized global revenue. Responsible to set the forecasts and global recommended retail prices for all new products. Achieved the highest growth of any product segment in IKEA for three years running.
