No matter the problem or the challenge you face in business, there is only one core answer - PEOPLE. No matter what the issue is (finance, systems, stock, sales, margin, property) somebody has to fix it. Ideally it is never one person but rather a collection of bright and like minded people working together as a team.Forget the silos. Forget the egos. Forget the internal competition. The best results come from the best teams that work in the safest environments. Safe environments allow all people to contribute with their best efforts as well as learn and imporatantly be happy. Forget the incremental growth and let's talk about what actually can be done.I look for people who want to be better than good. They are the people that are here to help and contribute. People who make it work and care about the business and their team mates. There is no "I" in team. Feedback feeds the business, the business sustains the team and so the story goes.I am a great believer is surrounding yourself with the best and brightest. Give people the game plan and more importantly the scope and auotonomy they need to surprise themselves and out perform their own expectations. Forget all the business jargon that flies around and break the conversations down into simple yet understandable concepts. Talk to people like you want to be spoken to. I don't have all the answers but a high functioning team will have many more answers. There is no room for yelling, none for telling but rather plenty of room for selling whatever it is. This concept mainly applies to people you lead and work with rather than what you actually sell.Be all about the talent and where it is and just as importantly where does it want to go.I ask myself every day - What environment am I creating and what people are coming with me for the journey.
