The Northeast Coastal Communities Sector is a 501(c)5 non-profit organization consisting of commercial fishermen in the northeast multispecies (groundfish) fishery. Our groundfish permit holders share their annual catch quotas with their enrollment in the Sector in order to preserve the opportunity for small-scale community based fishermen in New England to participate in the fishery. The organization is governed by a board of directors, and the position of Manager is provided through programming at Penobscot East Resource Center. My responsibilities are to manage individual members catch allocation, making trades of various species both intra- and inter-sector. I act as liason between our fishermen and federal fishery managers, as well as advocate for sound policies that make sense for our fishermen.

Penobscot East Resource Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working to sustain a future for fishing and fishing communities in eastern Maine and beyond. As Fisheries and Seafood Associate, I manage many programs within the organization including the following:• The Eastern Gulf of Maine Sentinel Survey Fishery is a cooperative research program that monitors groundfish recovery in eastern Maine by sampling over 90 locations in 1000 square miles of the coastal shelf using hook gear. I manage the operations of the survey, contracting with fishermen, organizing data collection, and managing supplies, equipment, and fishing gear.• Our Public Education Program is directed at informing our visitors about issues in local fisheries and gathering broad support for our mission through our Fisheries Education Center – a small public space with interactive exhibits and informational material. I oversee the space and am responsible for designing interactive and engaging experiences for our visiting public. In addition, I organize talks, events, and school groups with more focused topic areas.• Maine Fare is a unique food festival that happens annually in Belfast, ME. It brings together farmers, fishermen, foodies, nonprofits, food businesses, and eaters to celebrate a vibrant and delicious future for food, farming, and fishing in Maine. The event consists of a food forum the first day and vendors, DIY classes, chef demos and tastings the second. My role as co-organizer of the event is to provide marine and seafood related vendors, panelists, and chefs from across Maine who support the idea of fishing and eating local.

Connecticut

East West Technical Services is a data collection company sub-contracted by the National Marine Fisheries Service to collect fisheries data onboard scallop and groundfish vessels in the northeast. As an At-Sea Monitor, I boarded vessels for 1-14 day fishing trips in the north Atlantic, collecting biological and economic data during fishing operations. I was responsible for adhering to strict data quality protocols and reporting to National Marine Fisheries Service for the purposes of real-time fishery management.

Yarmouth, Me

DeLorme is the long-time innovation leader in mapping and GPS solutions for the consumer, professional, and government markets. As a GIS Technician, I was responsible for mapping hydrological features and transportation systems around the globe using remote sensing technology, proprietary intelligence, and aerial photography. During my short tenure, I rapidly advanced to more complex tasks, including traffic mapping and data error fixing. I gained a diverse set of skills using DeLorme's X-Map spatial software, as well as hardware and firmware experience.

Developed written and video content for GMRI's public and donor audiences. Interpreted complex science into consumable pieces for the general public via print and web. See their "Spotlight on Science" series in the 2009 Annual Report for examples of my work.
