Through the apprenticeship I developed a wide array of skills, a skill set that made me as well rounded as nearly anybody within the electrical field. I was involved in installing jobs on the power side, as well as the data/telecommunications side. During a portion of my apprenticeship I was responsible for layout of site lighting and new construction slabs in order to reduce costs of overhead electrical installations. This required me to be familiar with surveying equipment (specifically Trimble) and have working knowledge of AutoCAD and other building software.

I edit all news copy for publication and communicate any changes to my reporters. I write attention-grabbing headlines and layout my sections using Adobe InDesign. I am also responsible for locating and assigning stories to reporters and assisting them with any problems they may encounter.

As a reporter I researched and developed news stories for student produced bi-weekly newspaper. I also maintained the police beat, covering police related stories among the GSU campus and the Statesboro community. In addition to covering the police beat I also covered general assignment news pertaining to the GSU campus. Assignments ranged from covering the impact of statewide budget cuts to the growth of student enrollment and its impact in the classroom.
