Summer Intern - Manufacturing Engineering, Controls And Test
Worked with the Controls and Test team inside the Manufacturing Engineering side of the plant. Spent the summer in the production test cells performing multiple tasks. My main project involved designing and creating a PLC solution to measure angular speed on two sides of the driveshaft coupling between the engine and dyno to prevent the coupling from reaching too high of an angular twist and potentially shattering internal bolts. Other tasks in the test cells included working with union trades to make ergonomical changes for operators to save time and effort when hooking up engines in the test cells, as well as assisting with converting test cells to accommodate new engine models.
Summer Intern - Thermodynamics Group
Worked in the Thermodynamics Group, assisted with writing tests for prototype engines as well as analyzing test data from prototype engines as well as engines in durability testing. Primary work throughout the summer involved analyzing test data from a prototype engine in a climate controlled test cell to observe the effects of running at different altitudes and ambient temperatures.
Summer Intern
Flexware Innovation is an engineering consulting firm that specializes in manufacturing systems. As an intern with Flexware Innovation, I was exposed to many different manufacturing plants and systems. On a daily basis, I was posted with a client of Flexware, at the Anderson Nestle Plant, one of Nestle's highly automated plant from beginning to end. At Nestle and with Flexware, I was able to learn a great amount about how crucial it is to decrease downtime in any way possible. I was given the opportunity to be Project Manager for the implementation of a new software that decreased the time taken to relay an alarm from a machine to the correct employee. The experience of being on the floor and in the offices everyday really gave me a good feel for the professional life of an engineer in manufacturing setting.
Summer Employee
Hoosier Fire Equipment is a family owned business that provides the sales and service of fire apparatus to fire stations across the state of Indiana. I worked here for two summers, and was given a diverse group of tasks ranging from designing a new business document to decrease the time it took to process paperwork, to assisting the mechanics in the shop with mechanical or electrical issues on the trucks.
