Postdoctoral Researcher- Goldstein LabVirginia Tech Jan 2016 - May 2016Blacksburg, Va, UsFocused on the conjugation, and adsorption of bioactive factors to electrospun micro-fibers and the response of mesenchymal stem cells in a collagen hydrogel network to the presence of these fibers. -
Graduate Research Assistant-Goldstein LabVirginia Tech Aug 2010 - Dec 2015Blacksburg, Va, UsMy PhD research focused on the fabrication of large, cylindrical micro-fiber/hydrogel composites for ligament tissue engineering and the inclusion of cues to guide cell differentiation. In this project, I developed techniques to assemble materials that could provide both sufficient space for cell infiltration and tissue formation along with cues and stimuli to guide cell organization and differentiation. Model platforms were developed to study how cells within a collagen hydrogel network respond to the cues provided by a layer of sparse micro-fibers.- Utilized Electrospinning and Electrospraying to fabricate multilayered micro-fiber/hydrogel 3D constructs for ligament and bone tissue engineering. - Functionalized filaments, surfaces, and hydrogels with growth factors and peptides to guide cellular response- Isolated and purified collagen - Isolated and purified mesenchymal stem cells- Imaging of 3D constructs using a confocal microscope. - Conducted microscale mechanical testing of constructs. -
Undergraduate Research Assistant- Yoganathan LabGeorgia Institute Of Technology Aug 2008 - May 2010Atlanta, Georgia , UsMy research during my undergraduate at Georgia Tech focused on investigated the effects of pathological cyclic strain and pressure on ex vivo porcine aortic valve leaflets in a bioreactor system. Leaflets after treatment were analyzed for expression of pathologic markers through immunohistochemistry and western blotting. A significant portion of the work involved the development and testing of both cyclic strain/pressure and complete aortic valve flow loops. -
