I am a night instructor at Anoka Technical College, teaching introductory and advanced courses in the mechanical design software, Solidworks. I helped start this night program back in 2009 and have continued to develop it as the years have progressed. I truly enjoy being able to work with people in the advancement of their 3D and Solidworks knowledge. We have designed this course to allow students to work at a pace that allows them to retain the knowledge and concepts taught, without feeling overwhelmed. We strive to teach and develop good modeling practice that will help them succeed in their working environment. There are two courses that have been created, Introductory and Advanced, that are taught one after the other, and builds upon core techniques to help the students feel confident in their skills or to enhance ones they may already have.Main Areas of StudyIntroduction to Solidworks- User Interface / Options.- Designing custom templates (Parts, Drawings).- Design Intent.- Create sketches using basic sketch entities.- Create parts using basic modeling features / techniques.- Create drawings from parts (Including section / detail / aux views).- Intro to material properties / appearances.Advanced Solidworks (Must complete Intro or show competent skill-set)- Design custom templates for assemblies / drawings.- Create complex parts using basic / advance modeling features / techniques.- Create assemblies using multiple parts.- Develop an understanding of assemblies and mating techniques.- Create drawings for parts and assemblies (Including BOM, revisions, etc).- Develop a greater understanding to material properties / appearances.- Introduction to sheet metal and basic techniques.- Introduction to weldments and 3D sketches.
