I am leading the Rigid Plastics Category in Friesland Campina from the category procurement side globally. This is a temporary assignment during the second half of my executive MBA.From May 2025 I will be available, as the assignment is planned to end then.

Dec 2020 - April 2024; Global Strategic Sourcing Manager Pulp and Paper Based Categories.The impact I make is by crafting resilient procurement strategies and overseeing their seamless execution. These strategies encompass savings and cash improvement delivery, adept price risk management, meticulous cost modelling, and securing long-term supply assurance, including forging upstream board mill agreements. I proactively spearhead sustainability initiatives aimed at securing a deforestation-free portfolio, enhancing carbon footprint reduction efforts, and strategically leveraging these advancements across diverse regions.I conducted a Pulp and Paper portfolio review across JDE including a current state assessment on deforestation-free materials, a peer benchmark, regional risk profiles and a gap assessment to strategize compliance to deforestation regulations with global certifications schemes like FSC, or base material changes.The carbon footprint reductions encompass implementing supply chain management aligned with Science Based Target Initiative commitments, alongside pioneering plastic-to-paper innovations. This involves research and scouting into enhancing barrier properties in pulp-based materials and transitioning to home compostable, bio-based alternatives.My role encompasses overseeing operations in 40 factories worldwide, spanning across the EU, EEMEA, APAC, and LatAm regions. I actively navigate diverse cultural landscapes and cultivate robust relationships with suppliers and stakeholders across these areas.

My objectives were to build and develop a team of category managers and secure cost and cash delivery, while at the same time supporting innovation and sustainability. Responsibility included the procurement of corrugated shippers, folding carton boxes, filter paper and labels, with a global spend of over €90mm.One of my major achievements was re-engaging suppliers to develop and supply compostable filter paper packaging, which supported delivery on JDE's sustainability objectives for one of the flagship brands. Additionally, I led a tendering process for the corrugated portfolios in the EU and Thailand, resulting in savings of 14% on a spend of over €30mm. Overall, I am proud to have developed and led a team of category managers to deliver sustainable procurement solutions, while achieving cost savings and working capital improvements and maintaining supplier relationships.

When embarking on a new learning chapter in my career by stepping into indirect procurement, a white space at the time for JDE, my primary goal was to identify and implement indirect procurement cost synergies while also delivering cash improvements to deleverage JDE which was newly created when Douwe Egberts and Mondelez coffee activities merged. I initiated improvements to the procurement process related to the contingent workforce, (blue and white-collar workers), and facilities services, recruitment, and real estate. € 80 mm total budget.Despite facing challenges such as limited data availability and resistance from stakeholders, I have successfully identified and achieved significant savings and added value through an innovative approach in sourcing facility services. I have also created value by balancing JDE's interests as customer and supplier with facility management companies. My greenfield approaches and ability to adapt to changing circumstances have led to significant cost savings and improvements in procurement processes. I was awarded “best in class procurement colleague with a learning mindset”.

One of my key accomplishments was successfully developing and aligning the procurement strategy with OpCo procurement directors, while also collaborating closely with local buyers across regions on strategy formulation, tender processes, and negotiation planning. This endeavour proved to be challenging, but it yielded remarkable results. This achievement was made possible by identifying and capitalizing on group synergies within a highly consolidated supplier market, specifically in the realm of beverage cans. I was honoured with the "Best Cartel Challenger" award.As the procurement innovation lead for shaped cans, I was excited to develop and implement initiatives that improve product quality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness. I developped my experience in working collaboratively with suppliers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to drive transformational change and deliver results.Overall, my scope of work included leading procurement category management for beverage cans globally €320mm category to 65 breweries, while also driving innovation in the area of shaped cans preparing for a global roll out.

A significant milestone in my career was spearheading the first-ever e-auction within Heineken, conducted on Ariba. This e-auction was focused on logistics packaging and was executed within a consortium buying model that included other prominent European FMCG companies such as Purina (Nestlé), Diageo, and Johnson & Johnson.My objectives were project based purchase, support R&D in packaging innovation projects. My scope were PET bottles, injection moulded bottle crates (including mould sourcing), wash off clear labels and foil.
