Chief Operating Officer
CurrentPatrick has worked in the Biotech field for over 20 years in various roles. Having graduated from University College Cork with a B.Sc. in Biochemistry, he completed his doctorate studies at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (Cancer Research UK) and graduated with a PhD from King’s College, University of London. This was followed by postdoctoral work on DNA Repair mechanisms at Institut Jacques Monod in Paris France funded by an EMBO Fellowship and Human Frontiers in Science Program Fellowship. Following this, Patrick returned to Ireland and a position of Senior Researcher at BioResearch Ireland where he worked in the Human Genetics field and developed and patented a mutation detection technology through University College Cork. Using venture capital and spinning the patented technology out of the university, he founded Ireland’s first Genomics company called HiberGen Limited, and took on the role of Chief Scientific Officer. Here he set about setting up a network of collaborations with world renowned practitioners working on various genetic diseases, with the aim of identifying disease genes, risk factors, drug targets and technology commercialization.Patrick then became Director of R&D and subsequently Vice President of R&D at Trinity Biotech plc, a NASDAQ traded IVD company where he spearheaded their R&D efforts in both reagent/device and instrument development for over a decade both in Europe and USA. In addition to product development, he successfully transferred multiple products from R&D to manufacturing and oversaw the technical transfer of multiple company and product portfolio acquisitions.Patrick joined DCN in 2015 as Chief Operating Officer and his primary responsibilities are R&D operations, client management, business and strategy development.
