Patrick Sheehan is an art advisor and appraiser based in New York city with 12 years of auction house experience and is a solid generalist in 18th-21st century decorative arts and design. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Florida, and holds an M.A. in Decorative Art and Design History from the Bard Graduate Center in New York City. While at the BGC he was able to attend a comprehensive summer study program offered in conjunction with the Victoria & Albert Museum, Royal College of Art, The Wallace Collection and Waddesdon Manor. After completing his studies he joined Sotheby's New York in 1998. In 2002, Mr. Sheehan took a specialist position within the European Furniture Division of Christie’s New York. During his three-year tenure he contributed to over thirty sales and became a generalist in 18th-20th century decorative arts. In 2005, he retuned to Sotheby’s as a generalist in the Arcade division and through his efforts in building the 20th century design market there, he was quickly elevated to a position within the 20th Century Design Department. During this period he honed his connoisseurship skills in the often problematic areas of Tiffany glass, bronze and ivory sculptures and art deco furniture. During this diverse career he not only contributed to regular department sales but also worked on property from high profile institutions and collections including; the Collection of Barbra Streisand, the Collection of Marlon Brando, the Doris Duke Collection, the Estate of the Honorable Murtogh Guinness, The Brooklyn Museum, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts to name but a few. In addition to departmental duties he worked very closely with the Trust and Estate divisions to service public and private institutions and to directly handle the needs of high-net-worth clients.
