Edited daily news round-ups, monthly and yearly regional economic reports and financial research notes covering Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries. Cairo-based position involved substantial training component to improve writing ability of junior financial analysts and included short-term work in Dubai.

Produced and was main author of two major economic surveys of Egypt. The government of Ahmed Nazif, appointed in June 2004, used the first survey to introduce dramatic free-market reforms to world business leaders at the Davos forum in January 2005. The government facilitated the survey with unprecedented journalistic access to Egypt's economic elite, including Nazif, the president's son Gamal Mubarak, ministers in economic portfolios and the heads of most of Egypt’s main banks. Personally wrote more than 20,000 words on economy, finance and culture – all within eight weeks.
