Educational Philosophy of Patrick WhiteleyI chose to be teacher because I have always wanted to make a difference. I was inspired by one of my teachers, who unselfishly gave of himself for the better of his students. He once told me as a young grade 10 student that: “I am only one but still I am one. I cannot do everything but still I can do something and because I cannot do everything I will not refuse the something I can do.”- Edward Evertt HaleEducation is an individual, unique experience for every student. In order for children to benefit from all schools have to offer, teachers must be motivating. As professionals entrusted with the education of young minds, teachers must facilitate learning and growth academically, personally, and ethically. By providing a quality education to each individual in one's classroom, a teacher equips children with the tools necessary for success in life. The parts of education that I personally value are the gaining of knowledge, problem solving, cooperative learning, and the passing on of knowledge. I also strongly believe that students need to work together to problem solve. Students create a social network by working together, learn to work with better others and accept diverse views. By working together, students become more open and tolerant of different views or opinions. As a teacher, I am a catalyst for educational change. It is my responsibility to keep growing, to keep discovering and continue to be excited by life. Teachers need to have a solid understanding of developmental growth and continue to challenge themselves.
