I was the Executive Editor at Ethiopia Insight, an online publication founded in 2018 by William Davison, Senior Ethiopia Analyst at the International Crisis Group. Ethiopia Insight publishes viewpoint pieces and investigative journalism on all aspects of Ethiopian politics written primarily by Ethiopian authors of all backgrounds, but also by foreign experts.I was a Senior Editor from June 2021 to August 2022 and became executive editor at that point until stepping down in May 2024. I was involved in the editorial process as either the primary, secondary, or copy editor for all pieces published by Ethiopia Insight during that time period. My role included deciding which submissions to move forward with, editing pieces from the initial idea to publication, copy editing and fact checking, ensuring that pieces follow thecorrect style, determining the editorial focus, coordinating with investigative journalists in Ethiopia, promoting each piece on social media, and applying for funding. From September 2022 until June 2023, I was the Project Manager and Primary Editor for Ethiopia Insight's Analytical Reporting to Improve the Federation (ARIF) project. ARIF received external funding that allowed us to employ five reporters in Ethiopia to develop in-depth pieces on Ethiopia's federal system. My role was to manage the five reporters in developing their pieces and serve as the primary editor for each of them. These pieces were some of the most in-depth investigative reporting available on the relationship between Ethiopia's ethno-territorial federation and conflict, and how to ensure that it mitigates rather than perpetuates conflict.
