During these years, I directed an average of 48 well-drilling contracts per year that drilled to depths ranging from 400 feet to 1900 feet which averaged $110 per foot. During the course of each well-drilling contract, I guided work crews ranging from as few as five workers to as many as 20. Directing the work crew for each well-drilling operation involved implementing safety protocols, handling payroll, enforcing discipline, and submitting personnel evaluations. In addition to leading work crews, I ensured that the company's inventory of equipment was always in good working condition. Enloe drilling maintained and inventory of four truck-mounted drilling rigs with an asset value of $1M each along with two equipment storage yards that totaled 10 acres. The company's facilities also included one full-service machine shop with a comprehensive assortment of metal fabrication equipment valued at $1M. Besides overseeing equipment maintenance routines, I fulfilled the company's supply requisitions and continually updated an inventory of 20K+ items which included 20 types of drilling mud. Kenai's Drill Rig #18 is an innovative installation because it is unusually compact for a rig that drills down to 25K feet. 🕳My official working schedule was one week on and one week off and all of the work took place near Ventura, CA. As a Floor Hand, I kept the drill rig clean and in safe working order, but I also performed the crucial task of calculating the depth of each drill bit down to the inch during operations. Keeping track of the drill's depth is an important task because every oil rig's work crew needs to know how much piping to order and they need to know where their drill bit is at all times to avoid injuries and property damage. Serving as a motorman involved keeping daily maintenance logs for 15 pieces of drilling equipment and coordinating repairs with personnel from 10 different subcontracting companies which included electricians, mechanics, and welders. Most of the equipment I serviced and maintained consisted of hydraulically powered high-pressure pumps. My final position was that of an Assistant Driller, and in this role, I oversaw the equipment that filtered the drilling mud mixtures which lubricated the drill bits and ensured that each well's internal pressure remained well sealed. I additionally guided operations for the rig's personnel other than the driller, plus I oversaw an inventory of 30 additives which maintained optimal viscosity for the rig's drilling mud. Show less -

When I began working with E&B I was a Rig Hand, but I earned one merit-based promotion to the position of Floor Hand. While partnered with this company, I worked in crews of three or four that performed well repair and maintenance jobs down to 9K feet, and these jobs lasted from one to ten days. At the beginning of each job, I drove a 100-foot-long mobile rig that was attached to a 10-ton truck to each work location. During a typical working day, I would drive a five-ton work truck on three to four trips to the main service shop to pick up needed supplies such as drill piping, pumping rods, and drilling mud. I also maintained repair logs for each drill rig's equipment and worked closely with four shop maintenance personnel. I am quite proud to say that none of the crews I served with at E&B ever recorded a lost-time injury, an environmental infraction, or an incident of equipment damage which merited an insurance claim.
