I am an experienced teacher and writer. As an English teacher I have worked with elementary and secondary students in both urban and suburban settings. I have also worked with college students, many of them first year students struggling with reading and writing skills and the demands of college life. In addition, I have supervised student teachers. My main interest is in returning to the secondary English classroom in a full time capacity, as either a teacher or in some kind of support role such as an academic coach or literacy tutor. I am also interested in the adult education field, whether in a community college or learning center environment, helping those students who want to make the leap from high school to college education. I firmly believe there are many students in this "transitional" phase who need our help, and that our institutions need to address their needs. I am also an experienced writer, having worked as both a full-time reporter and freelance journalist in the Cincinnati area prior to entering the teaching field. I also write a blog called buckeyemuse.com, which is devoted to Midwestern literature, history, and culture. My work with this blog was featured on a spring 2017 podcast of Heartland History, a podcasting platform for the Midwest History Association.
