I was part of the Creative Services team at Zingerman’s Service Network. I designed packaging, social media graphics, custom fonts, and even a few books for the eleven Ann Arbor–area businesses that make up Zingerman’s Community of Businesses.

Portland, Oregon Area

• Timber Press publishes authoritative books on gardening, horticulture, landscape design, and the natural world.
• Responsible for the management of the Art Department. Provided direction and stewardship in all aspects of art direction, design and production of 30–40 books per year.
• Provided direction and mentorship to three Designers and two Photo Editors.
• Led a successful re-branding of the company.
• Designed books, and supervised freelance designers, illustrators, and cartographers.
• Directed photo shoots on location. Improved and expanded use of commissioned photography.

• Owned and operated a graphic design studio with partner Holly McGuire.
• Designed, art-directed, and produced books for publishers such as Chronicle Books, Storey Publishing, Ten Speed Press, Seal Press, Counterpoint Press, and Mountaineers Books.
• From 2005–2010, art directed The Fretboard Journal, a quarterly instrument-enthusiast magazine. Designed and laid out each issue, commissioned and directed photo shoots, supervised freelance designers, and managed.
• Produced the annual Rick Steves Europe Through The Back Door series of travel books for Avalon Travel Publishing. Updated design and layout of 25+ books each year.
• Designed and produced logos, reports, brochures, postcards, calendars, music packaging, and marketing collateral for businesses and non-profit organizations, such as City Carshare, Oregon Humanities, Fancy Salon.

• The Fretboard Journal is a quarterly magazine for fretted-instrument enthusiasts.
• Designed the magazine and identity system from the ground up, establishing a distinct look for the publication's launch.
• Commissioned and art-directed photo shoots, managed production schedules, designed the articles and columns, edited and color-corrected photos, and inspected press proofs for color and consistency.
• Supervised freelance designers, photographers, and illustrators.
• Worked with the editorial team in Seattle and Palo Alto, California, to sequence and produce each issue.
• Transitioned the magazine to a sustainable publishing model, using FSC-certified materials.
