Enterprise ArchitectF5 Networks Nov 2008 - Oct 2012Seattle, Washington, Us• Architected 80% of F5's world-wide customer-facing web systems, including their corporate site, knowledge base site, downloads site, customer support site, beta site, product configuration site, and product licensing sites. Also led or managed implementation, roll out, and maintenance of these properties.• Architected all F5's automated SOA callhome systems. These are services invoked by every appliance in the field and include: automatic software updates and product licensing calls. Also led or managed implementation, roll out, and maintenance of these services.• Architected and managed implementation of F5's internal content management system, AEM, which drives the F5 corporate web site, partner site, and public knowledge base. Specced out over a hundred new features and improvements to the stock CMS in partnership with business units, and supervised in-house developers and contractors through roll out.• Chose application frameworks and coding methodologies.• Partnered with business units to creatively co-author functional requirements, suggesting approaches and features based upon knowledge of the company's broader initiatives and goals. • Drove detailed technical requirements; decided most aspects of designs from database through middleware through network configuration (except firewall).• Managed implementation of SOA systems, client-server applications, databases, BIG-IP network gear, LINUX and Windows servers, on multiple data centers servicing over ten language sites.• Guided coding implementations, and performed code reviews.• Drove development and testing standards.• Worked with business units to effectively understand the company's needs.• Mentored team members in technical areas, design skills, and business unit partnership skills. • Guided dev and operations teams in maintenance of all web systems.• Used Scrum and Rally to drive projects and tasks in Agile methodology. -
Senior Web Services DeveloperF5 Networks Jun 2003 - Dec 2007Seattle, Washington, Us• Built the F5 downloads site, exposing the files over FTP, HTTP and HTTPS, and with a custom SOAP export compliance solution.• Designed and built a callhome for our product to do an automatic software update. This was for our ASM security product. It uses Axis II and MTOM to deliver updates all in one request via SOAP with attachments.• Designed a robust customer support web site driven by the Spring Framework, REST, and RSS. Features: search results delivered in RSS, automatic state reconstruction (this enabled seamless recovery when failing the user session over to a new server). • Ported the 12,000 page knowledge base into Day CQ (AEM). This was a massive challenge as the documents were in unstructured, variable HTML. It contained over 2,000 images and 750 PDFs. Wrote new API for importing documents programmatically, designed RSS feed configurator, implemented advanced Lucene search utilizing XPATH queries.• Upgraded the SOAP-based licensing service called by F5 gear to have more advanced web services. Collected an expanded set of customer data, integrated it into F5's Single Sign On, and implanted a more robust error reporting API.• Implemented the first Customer Support Portal for F5, tying it into the existing CRM system. Integrated F5 financial data with Salesforce.com via a nightly batch job run over SOAP. This process resulted in sales commissions payouts, and as a result had to run flawlessly, every day of the year, to keep up with sales data. It ran for eight years, virtually unchanged.• Wrote F5's Single Sign On using F5 technologies including SSL offloading and iRules (layer 7 transformations). This was a cross-domain SSO that could seamlessly recover the user session when failing over between servers - and global data centers. -
