VanderHouwen is a family-owned and operated business established in 1987 by Kirby and Kathy VanderHouwen when the Pacific Northwest technology industry was emerging. Since then, they have expanded to include accounting and finance and engineering. They provide the Port of Portland (Port) with contingent staffing services. In this role, I work fully remote from my home office in N. Idaho to support ad-hoc recruitment needs for the Port’s talent acquisition team.

Port Of Portland

The Port of Portland is a quasi-State government organization that owns and operates three airports, four marine terminals and five business parks. In this role, I was responsible for full life cycle recruiting across all business lines (Environmental, Aviation Operations, Marine Operations, Information Technology, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Public Affairs) with a concentrated focus the last five years in Operations. Additionallly, I manage all public safety and civil service recruitments (police, fire, communication dispatchers, and marine security). This included lateral and recruit hiring processes, assessment centers, promotional processes, and on-boarding (background, medical, physical agility testing, and psychological evaluations). Served as the Chief Examiner on the Portland Airport Fire & Rescue Civil Service Commission responsible for oversight of all recruitment and promotion activity
