Quantium is a fast growing firm specialising in data analytics. Established in 2002, they partner with many of the world’s leading brands, through a team of 500 staff based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hyderabad. Quantium solves important business challenges for their partners and clients using a combination of unique data assets, world class technology and the brightest minds in analytics. I joined the team in May 2015 to look after tech recruitment, which included their production big data and SQL platforms, data pipelines, full-stack software engineering teams, product and project teams, IT infrastructure, information security and more. Engineers utilised a wide variety of tech, not limited to; Apache Spark, MapR FS, Mesos, YARN, Scala, Docker, Linux, Python, Go, Akka, Hbase, H2O, SQL, MicroStrategy and other tools in the Hadoop and opensource data ecosystems.As a company that built a big data environment that MapR and Cisco thought was pretty cool, this role often required sourcing niche skills from Australia and abroad and I enjoyed the challenge of researching and bench-marking talent globally. The proprietary data platform utilises both client datasets and those of numerous data partners including Woolworths, National Australia Bank, Foxtel and CoreLogic. Quantium helps clients leverage these insights through a combination of adtech tools, software, personalisation algorithms and rapidly expanding media partnerships with brands such as Facebook, Foxtel, News Corp, oOh! and Google.
