Standard Chartered Bank is a global retail and investment bank, operating mainly in Africa, the Middle East and emerging Asian Markets.The Bank needed an online foreign exchange FIX engine that would allow their large business clients - such as hedge funds - to efficiently trade national currencies electronically. Prior to this, big businesses and investment funds would call specialised trading desks to get the current exchange rate and purchase/sell their currency. As the Senior Development Manager, I was responsible for managing the development and delivery of the Bank’s FIX FX Engine. This involved:✔️Obtaining internal funding✔️Building and leading a team ✔️Managing project deliverables and finances✔️Writing technical specifications✔️Vendor and contract negotiations ✔️Build, test and deploy the FX EngineThe FIX FX Engine was built and deployed successfully in less than 12 months, with new big businesses and institutions quickly coming on board to use it.

Morgan Stanley is a leading US multinational investment bank and financial services company, headquartered in New York City.The Bank’s foreign exchange IT department were under pressure to deliver long overdue projects and had experienced almost 100% staff turnover. My work as a Senior Developer and Architect was to lead teams to deliver very technically-challenging foreign exchange pricing and trading systems with very short deadlines to help the bank aggressively capture market share.Some of the projects I worked on resulted in:✔️Reducing the online wait time for customers’ foreign exchange pricing, orders and requests while making sure that the prices and bookings were available 24x7.✔️Increasing the rate at which foreign exchange information is processed so that customers are able to access the most accurate information anytime.✔️Custom tools for traders so that customers could know how much liquidity or foreign exchange currency was available to trade at any time of day✔️Integrate with multiple internal and external systems so that customers could access pricing and book trades with whatever system they preferred.

Safire Trading Group is a private group of traders and other specialists working on automating and implementing basic AI trading systems for trading currencies/forex, stocks and commodities.My role was to develop the IT infrastructure required to test and then reliably automate the data and trading systems. ✔️At the end of this two-year project, I was able to deliver:✔️A scalable data collection framework that allowed for accurate real-time snapshot of market history within online trading systems. ✔️An AI trading system that traded in real-time, 24 hours a day and could trade thousands of instruments simultaneously. This supported experienced human traders to be able to focus on other matters that AI cannot do such as strategies and relationship building.

Motability Finance Limited operates Europe’s largest car fleet of over 387,000 vehicles. They provide finance and leasing of vehicles to people with disabilities. My role here centred on improving the often error prone handling of manual data and asset management into automated online systems. This allowed staff to have more effective/productive working experience, while increasing communications and service for customers. At Motability, I mentored and led a number of software developers to build:✔️A system to track the transport of over 125,000 vehicles annually from customers to auction yards and dealerships countrywide. The system also supported more efficient logistics by tracking the status of each movement to prevent backlogs and financial penalties. ✔️Enhanced customer messaging service so that customer communication never fails. ✔️Developed automated systems to identify vehicles near lease-end for inspection and accurate estimation of repair costs.

iiNet is one of Australia’s leading internet service providers. As the number 4 employee of iiNet, I first started work on systems administration, focusing on security design and automation of system administration tasks. As iiNet became WA’s largest internet service provider, I led a team of developers to create first technologies that improved workflow, productivity and efficiency to the running of the business, including:✔️A three-tier accounting software that managed annual revenues in excess of $75 million✔️Systems that allowed for accounting output to be done 430% faster✔️Development of Australia’s first e-commerce web sites for some of iiNet’s clients.During my time at iiNet I also took time out to work on other projects, as listed below.

In January 1993, I founded Linux International - a not for profit organisation to promote the newly introduced Linux operating system. This was one of the first virtual organisations in the world at the time, with members from around the world. To facilitate the global online communications, I configured and installed one of the first non-University machines to be permanently connected to the internet in Australia. Linux International’s web site was amongst some of the first web sites in the world.
