My career has been dedicated to building public and private service and infrastructure initiatives in collaboration with the communities that rely on them.Trained in urban planning and public policy, I have a 360-degree perspective on local communities through work in various sectors -- education, transportation, youth development, and community development, building expertise in start-ups and turning around failed initiatives. ✔ In Tulsa, Okla., as the founding executive director of a citywide integrated-learning intermediary, I led talented staff and partners from over 50 different community organizations in deepening the quality and quantity of hands-on learning opportunities, to help youth build social, emotional, and civic skills to excel in career, college, and life.✔ In Providence, R.I., I was a founding director of a $20 million nationally recognized out-of-school learning program; oversaw a staff of more than 100 employees and consultants that significantly improved academic performance and graduation rates for its 10,000 student participants.✔ In Seattle, I launched a local chapter of the City Year AmeriCorps program, resulting in more than 1,000 diverse young adults providing over 1.8 million hours of community service in area schools. Subsequently, I managed public planning for several politically charged regional transportation projects costing more than $100 million.✔ In Cleveland, I founded a college service-learning program with 15 student staff connecting hundreds of students from annually with inner-city residents through a score of programs. The initiative became a model for other colleges.✔ In New York City, I led more than 1,000 members in 18 local chapters of an international, faith-based organization focused on social-justice issues with global focus.✔ Throughout Ohio, I worked as a high school English teacher and in college campus ministries, linking students to community projects and international social-justice issues.
