About Patrick Gillette

Patrick Gillette is an accomplished and well respected Renewable Energy Executive with more than twenty years experience in government relations, Environmental Assessment, regulatory affairs, Indigenous Engagement and power plant development in the province of Ontario. Unique in his field, Patrick has taken projects through the entire development process, from site assessment through to commercial operations, and has practical and working knowledge of waterpower, windpower, biomass, solar, trigeneration, conservation, load-management, and energy storage.A highly strategic thinker and entrepreneur at heart, Patrick founded Xeneca Power Development Inc. and co-founded Canadian Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC). Under Patrick’s leadership, Xeneca Power acquired 19 FIT contracts in the 2010 round, capturing an unprecedented 50% of all hydro-electric projects awarded, with a further 16 ECT sites granted as part of the process. As a lead member of the CREC executive team, Patrick guided the Misema hydroelectric project through to build and operation, and was the original developer of the Wolfe Island wind project. Much of Patrick’s success is due to his deep understanding of the market, nimble approach to business, and ability to manage multiple projects in partnership with industry consultants. He is a well established leader in the Ontario market, and has a diverse set of industry contacts at all levels of influence. Patrick holds two Master’s degrees in his field – in Environmental Studies (Energy and Environmental Policy) from York University in Toronto, Ontario, and in Public Administration (Public Sector Reorganization in the Energy Field) from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

I reported to CAO with the dual responsibility of optimizing $10 million in annual operations and revenue and acquiring new green generation projects across North America.- He negotiated Joint Venture Agreement with Geo-source Energy, creating a $30+ million pipeline of geo-exchange projects, which is expected to grow to $200 million with Federal grants and loans (e.g., Canadian Infrastructure Bank).- Led a consortium of Enbridge, Alectra, CIMA+, Black and McDonald, and OEC to successfully respond to the $100+ million Battery Electric Bus request for proposals from Oakville Transit, with a strategy for the partners to offer this as an Energy Service for Battery Electric and Hydrogen fueled buses.- Completed the 50,000 sq.ft.
