Profile bio

About Patrick Howson

I’ve always been hooked on scripted drama and have spent years navigating the ins and outs of the film and TV world – mostly in creative script development and international sales & distribution. Along the way, I’ve managed to combine this with my other big passion: mental health and charity work. From 2020 to 2023, I served as a Development Producer at Submarine, a Dutch production company, where I helped shape a large slate of series and features, including two TV series – The Kollective and Safe Harbour – that in 2023/4 were greenlit by major European broadcasters (ZDF, France TV, Videoland). During this time, I built solid relationships with drama commissioners across Europe and the UK.Fast forward to 2024, I took on a part-time gig as a development producer for Norwegian production company Evil Doghouse while polishing my script skills through the Story for Screenwriting course at the John Yorke Story School. Oh, and I also wrote a TV pilot script (because, why not?).I dipped into mental health work in 2019, earning a certificate in counselling skills from City Lit. When the pandemic hit, I put those skills to use as a case worker at St Mungo’s. More recently, I’ve been part-time support staff at Steps2Recovery, a cause I care deeply about.Rewind to 2013-2018, when I was a Sales & Acquisitions Director for Bankside Films. There, I helped develop, finance, and distribute a range of acclaimed indie features.Outside of work, I’m all about psychology, running, and cheering on Arsenal (even when they test my patience).

Listed skills include Film Production, Television, Video Production, Film, and 26 others.

Assessment & Reconnection Worker

London, England, United Kingdom

In 2020 I took a career break from the film and TV industry to work for the homeless charity St Mungo’s during the coronavirus pandemic. I worked at the Travelodge City hotel in central London where nearly 200 homeless clients were housed as part of the national ‘Everyone In’ campaign. I worked to help advocate on behalf of homeless clients to secure longer term sustainable housing options, access to other services such as mental health support, drug and alcohol services, and legal immigration advice. Working with no previous homeless sector experience during the pandemic was challenging and gruelling, but it was also and exhilarating and deeply enriching experience that transformed my understanding of the charity sector and complex web of social issues that contribute to homelessness. I am proud to have been part of the 'Everyone In' campaign and continue to work occasional shifts for St Mungo's services.
